Allco constructed the Texas Youth Commission’s Al Price Unit on 52 acres of property in Nederland, Texas. The planned development was originally estimated to cost $26 million, and included luxuries like an indoor Olympic swimming pool and gymnasium outfitted with courts and weight lifting equipment. Allco rescued the project from budget overages by strategic reduction of square footage, product substitution, and focusing on the function of the facility. At design completion, the political controversy had subsided and the 9 building complex was completed at a cost of $17.8 million.
